Kolman
named to lead county Dems
(excerpted
from the Georgetown
Times)
JULY 20, 2004
-- Nancy Kolman, who has served as the partys secretary, was
elected Monday as the interim chairman. Kolman, the first woman
to chair the local Democratic party, replaces Charles McGill who
held the post since December.
McGill announced
last week he was resigning to concentrate on his real estate business.
He said a recent controversy surrounding his push to get a Lowes
home improvement store in Pawleys Island was taking on political
overtones because of his position with the Democratic Party.
At Mondays
meeting, Kolman was nominated to the position by party member Sam
Wragg.
Don Manning,
who spoke in favor of Kolman, said he got to know her when she was
chairman of the Waccamaw Neck Democratic Association.
She was
always encouraging even when we were down to about five members.
She was like a NASCAR race driver when she would get into high gear.
She knew how to get us busy, Manning said.
Kolman, who
has lived in Georgetown County more than seven years, has been active
in politics for four decades. She said she served in the Democratic
precinct or county offices in the five other states she has lived.
We need to work together as one. If we get divided, we will
fall in November, she sad after the votes were announced.
Im proud to be a yellow-dog Democrat and we are moving
onward to victory in November.
Message
from County Chairperson Nancy Kolman
On July 19,
2004 at our Georgetown County Democrat Party general and executive
committee meeting, I was elected to serve as interim chairperson
for our party.
Most of you
know me as the Georgetown County Democrat Party Secretary or we
have worked together on voter registration, to get out the vote,
elections, or party functions.
For those who
dont know me, Ive been active in the Democratic Party
for over 40 years in Ohio, West Virginia, New Mexico, California,
New Jersey and Virginia as my family moved around the country. My
husband and
I retired to Georgetown County 7 ½ years ago because we fell
in love with the area and the people.
Since moving
here, Ive served 3 years as Secretary of the Pawleys Island
Democrats (now the Waccamaw Neck Democrats), am in my second term
as President of the Georgetown County Democratic Womens Council
and have been an active participant of the Democratic Breakfast
Club for the past four years.
As a party
we need to work harder than weve ever worked to elect all
our candidates in November. The future of our country and county
depend on our being victorious in November.
We need to
register all eligible voters and be committed to getting them all
to the polls on November 2nd.
We have an
outstanding slate of candidates, all qualified to fill the offices
for which he or she is running. They need our support!
Working as
a TEAM we can share our ideas and pool our energy to Victory In
November!
I look forward
to working with each of you to make our democratic party in Georgetown
County the very best it can be.
Our goal
VICTORY IN NOVEMBER!!!!
Why? Because-
WE CAN, WE WILL, WE MUST! F.D.R.
